Trail Manager Responsibilities

Building and maintaining trails at Black Rock is core to what BRMBA is all about, therefore the Trail Managers assigned by ODF to oversee construction/maintenance of trails receive a position on the BRMBA Board of Directors.

The ODF adopt-a-trail agreement for Black Rock trails stipulates that... "each proposed trail will be assigned a trail manager – typically the person proposing the trail project. The trail manager is responsible for gaining all required approval for the trail and any Man-Made-Trail-Features (MMTFs) thereupon."

Upon approval of trail plan, it is the ODF representative who is ultimately responsibility for assigning a trail manager from the list of volunteers. Typically, the person proposing the trail would become the trail manager, but this assignment is up to ODF.

The trail manager will be responsible for annual trail maintenance. Maintenance may be performed from late fall to early spring. A report shall be submitted to the District’s representative that the maintenance has been done with a brief description of the work completed. Trail maintenance should include:

  • Removal of living obstructions
  • Restoration of trail to current technical rating
  • Repair of MMTFs
  • Repair and bypass of areas of erosion
  • Any special maintenance requested by ODF
